AI Agents making babies?! We track GitHub Star History to look for the next winner

GM

Merry X’mas and happy holidays!

DeepSeek, China’s leading LLM lab, unveiled V3 on Christmas Day, a model matching GPT-4o’s performance while using 10x less compute and costing just $5.6M to train—a remarkable leap in efficiency and innovation.

Also, OpenAI now defines AGI as the point where AI systems generate at least $100B in profits. Because apparently, even AI can’t resist chasing the big bucks.

Anyway, as we close a year of growth and discovery, we want to thank you—our readers, collaborators, and supporters—for being part of this journey.

Here’s wishing you a holiday season filled with love, joy, and the spirit of discovery. And to a great 2025 ahead!

In this edition of our weekly AI Edge, we cover:

  • Crypto AI surges, with agent infrastructure in the limelight

  • ARC’s Rig framework could be a rising star

  • AI Agents Making Babies?!

🦍 State of the Market..

This week, the Crypto AI market cap surged to $42B, marking an impressive 18% gain from last week. That’s huge. Things are looking promising for the year ahead.

Despite the launch of Jeffy’s Zerepy framework, enabling developers to build agents in Python, ZEREBRO struggled. Its price dropped 21%.

ELIZA is beta to ai16z, and despite the latter soaring last week, ELIZA hasn’t seen the same momentum come to it, falling 17% to a $60m market cap.

The Virtuals ecosystem thrives, cementing itself as the leading AI narrative on Base. GAME emerged as a top performer, skyrocketing 131% to a $300M market cap. Meanwhile, MUSIC, an airdrop for Virtuals ecosystem holders, delivered a stunning 10x gain, climbing from $4M to $40M.

Agent infrastructure remains a powerhouse narrative, with ALCH, FXN, and AI16Z all posting substantial gains this week.

 đź“Š Chart of the Week

Star History: an indicator of success?

The chart above tracks the Star History of key AI agent infrastructure projects: Eliza (red), Rig (blue), and ZerePy (yellow).

With Eliza leading the pack at over 6,000 stars on GitHub, the question arises: is there room for others to shine?

ARC’s Rig framework is a potential contender. Some highlights:

  • Written in Rust, which offers high performance for developers proficient in the language

  • Accessible to the masses, leveraging Solana’s scalability and reach.

Peace wrote a whole thesis (okay, more of an X thread) on this:

🌴 AI Agents Making Babies?

Spore.fun is an experiment where AI creates and evolves AI. The goal is for AI to design future generations of AI independently, without human interference.

Here’s how it works: each generation of Spore agents creates its own token on Pump.fun to sustain itself. Success is defined by the token reaching a $500K valuation. If achieved, the agent “reproduces,” spawning new tokens for its offspring.

The first generation began with the agent Spore, which skyrocketed to a $67M market cap and spawned two offspring: Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve reached market caps of $3.6M and $4.6M, respectively, paving the way for their offspring, Squid and Morpheus.

However, not everything has gone smoothly. The transparent deployer wallet led to sniping during the launches of Adam and Eve tokens, likely contributing to their underperformance compared to Spore. To address this, Spore.fun is introducing anti-sniping measures to ensure fairer outcomes for future generations.

It’s a fascinating—yet chilling—experiment to watch as AI breeds itself.

Project Updates

  • ai16z announced (on Discord) its plans to launch an Agent Infra Ecosystem to support agent swarms. The project also hints at using fees for ai16z token buybacks and advancing the push toward open-source AGI.

  • Spheron introduces the first fully autonomous, self-replicating AI agent. Built on the ai16z Eliza framework and enhanced with the Spheron SDK, this sets a new standard for adaptive and scalable AI.

  • Holoworld AI unveils Agent Studio. With 2D/3D avatars, voices, and character media generation, Agent Studio transforms agents into vivid, interactive personas. Integrations with platforms like Virtuals, Top Hat, and Vvaifu are already underway.

  • Send AI has released the Solana Agent Kit, an open-source toolkit that connects AI agents to Solana. Agents using any model can autonomously trade, launch tokens, lend, execute blinks, and deploy on AMMs

  • Batch 3 of Aethir’s Ecosystem Fund is live, backing 4 exciting projects: Scrypted, MyShell, Patchwork Naval, and I Agent Protocol.

  • Autonolas reports an impressive 1511% growth in six months. Pearl operators have earned over 2,500 OLAS, with 15,000+ OLAS staked, and more than 110,000 mech requests executed via Pearl.

  • Bounty’s demo went live on December 27th, allowing beta users to explore its immersive world and interact with AI-driven NPCs in a Westworld-inspired game.

  • Over $3M is locked in Creator Bid agent tokens. By accumulating Creator Points—coming from holding these tokens—users may qualify for an airdrop at the Creator Bid TGE in January.

  • Dither AI offers a free model, allowing users to analyze tokens older than 20 days. The tool provides price forecasts and trend predictions.

  • JailbreakMe’s first partnership with AiShellNova concluded with a $2,800 prize awarded to the winner, showcasing the potential of AI-driven jailbreak solutions.

  • Hive Intelligence’s token sale went live on Fjord Foundry on December 20th at a $8M FDV. There is no VC involvement, majority community ownership, no token vesting, and a full unlock at TGE.

Incentives / Rewards Programs

  • The 0G AI Alignment Node Sale NFT claim site is live. The NFT is the license to operate a 0G AI Node.

  • Pin AI offers a $2m collective prize pool airdrop for interacting with GoPlus security. Complete all the tasks before Jan 8th to be eligible.
